Where it all began

Mills Electrical Supply Inc. has been a trusted name in the electrical industry since opening its doors in 1953 at 411 Erie Boulevard West in Rome, New York. Founded by Mr. D. Mills, the company quickly established itself as a reliable source for quality electrical supplies, serving both homeowners and professional contractors with expertise and integrity in Central New York.

In the early 1970s, Mills Electrical Supply Inc. relocated to its current home at 739 Erie Boulevard West, where it expanded its offerings to include a dedicated lighting showroom. This addition allowed customers to explore a wide range of lighting fixtures in person, marking the beginning of a more hands-on, customer-focused retail experience that continues today.

A new chapter began in 1993 when Fred & Kay Dennison purchased the business, bringing fresh energy and leadership. Fred’s nephew, Thomas “Joe” Hynes, joined the team at just 20 years old. Over the next 36 years, Joe and his wife Sharon became integral parts of the company’s growth and success, eventually purchasing the business from Joe’s uncle in 2005. Under Joe and Sharon’s leadership, Mills Electrical Supply Inc maintained its strong reputation for knowledgeable service and dependable products.

In 2024, Joe and Sharon retired and passed the torch to Amanda Tyler, ushering in an exciting new era. As the current owner, Amanda is committed to honoring the company’s long-standing legacy while positioning it for the future. Under her leadership, Mills Electrical Supply, Inc. has become a certified New York State Women-Owned Business Enterprise (WBE), reflecting a renewed focus on diversity, innovation, and community engagement.

Today, Amanda is actively modernizing the business to meet the evolving needs of customers and the electrical supply industry. This includes a refreshed showroom featuring expanded product lines from a wider range of trusted vendors, and a strong emphasis on energy-efficient and code-compliant solutions. By staying current with industry standards, emerging technologies, and New York State electrical codes, Mills Electrical Supply Inc. continues to provide customers with safe, reliable, and forward-thinking products.
